Join Us As A Docent (Volunteer Ranger)

Be A Docent. Make A Positive Difference!
If you love animals and are keen to engage people, you may wish to join Singapore Zoo or Night Safari as a Docent.

What Is A Docent?
The word `docent’ is derived from the Latin word `doceo’, meaning `I Teach’. As a volunteer ranger, you work with the Zoo and Night Safari to promote interest in wildlife among visitors and to inspire them to care for nature.

What Does A Docent Do?

Training
You are required to go through a 12-week training programme, which offers you insights into the workings of the Zoo and Night Safari. The training will also equip you with knowledge on animals, wildlife conservation and how to engage visitors.

Training sessions are held on weekends (from 6 July to 21 Sept 2008), 9am to 5pm.

Educate, Engage And Enrich
After the training, you will work with other docents at Discovery Stations located at Zoo/Night Safari to educate and engage the visitors. Interpretives, games, props and animal artifacts are some of the tools which you will use to help enrich the experience of visitors.

Commitment
You must be able to commit to the Docent programme for at least 12 months.

You are expected to fulfill at least 1 day or 2 nights per month cumulating to a minimum of 20 duty hours a year.

What Are The Requirements?
You should be at least 21 years old and have a passion for nature, in particular wildlife. If you are enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge with others and believe that you can make a positive difference in wildlife conservation, we would certainly love to meet you.
